Scope

Dowty Automotive, part of Trelleborg Industries, produces seals and polymer based products for the automotive and engineering industries. Based in several locations in UK, Malta, Poland, Germany and France, employing 200 people.

Objectives

Stock and inventory reduction and resultant productivity improvement
Reengineering of the supply chain across several divisions and
countries
An organisational structure which meets the needs of the market,
customers and business
Delivered in a short time frame
Alignment and process modification to match SAP ERP system

Drivers for Change

Strongly focused on the changing needs of the customer, the business has to continually match and go beyond the needs of their global customer base. This was the overriding factor of the work carried out

 

 

Approach

This strategic programme required careful development of market and global conditions to reinforce the outstanding service currently being delivered by enhancing specific elements to ensure continued differentiation.

The work centred around modelling the current supply chain and then using specific analytical techniques piloting changes, carrying out risk assessments and then implementing and commissioning the process, organisational and systems changes.

Work began with a simulation of the current position, identifying the route to improvement covering:

Development of a transition plan to move from the current to
required situation

Benefits

The changes to customer service operations have included reduction in lead times of 10%, improvement in design to manufacture timescales of 20% and stock management improvement.
